As I began to approach the writing of this devotion, I realized there are so many directions I could go. How do I chose when giving a short summary of the importance of the birth of Jesus?
Immanuel, (With us is God)
"Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated, "God with us." Matt. 1:23
The most important of all God's gifts to man is the gift of His Son, Jesus (Immanuel) as the Savior of the world. God, in His love for us, did not leave us alone! No matter where we are, He is always "with us." Through the Word of Truth, He gives us knowledge of who He is and understanding of His redemptive plan.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 1Cor. 2:12
Acceptance of the gift of salvation through Jesus by faith is that first gift we must receive to be saved. However, we do not accept the One without receiving them all. God the Father, Jesus (Who is the Word, John 1:1), and His Holy Spirit are all inclusive in this divine package, for all who will believe!
Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. 1 John 3:24
The Holy Spirit teaches and completes us by filling us with His presence. His Spirit testifies and gives peaceful assurance to our spirit that He is God, and He is with us and in us always. Selah! (just stop and ponder that thought).
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures. James 1:17-18
Jesus, (Hebrew Joshua) God is Salvation
When we freely chose the gift of salvation through Christ Jesus, we are again gifted, with "God in us!" When God gives His Holy Spirit to live "in us," He enables us to love with His "Agape," love. In this gift is the true meaning of Christmas. Jesus has given us a life that is full of grace and unconditional love. He wants us to regift!
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1Peter 1:3
God gave us "Himself," for each one of us individually. IN FAITH, He... gave Himself to me alone, to you alone and to all who will chose Him, alone...if you get my meaning? God is our personal God, our personal Savior, and although His gifts are many, there is only one that includes them all; This is the gift of "Immanuel With us is God / Jesus God is salvation."
A Prayer to Share:
Help me, as I seek to hear You, see You, and love You more. You are my Savior and my Lord. Holy Spirit, enable me to know all that You are within me and ground me steadfast in the strength of Your Word! Amen
