God the Father spoke in The Old Testament Commandments:
These commands are our indictment! He gave us further instruction in The New Testament Commandments and in The Beatitudes. And then, Jesus the Christ provided our pardon!
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
The Ten Commandments (6) - Tossing a Life Line
"You shall not murder." Deuteronomy 5:17
Steadfast and Courageous
There are different ways we commit murder. In this commandment God includes the murder that often happens because of our lack of forgiveness and patience with one another. It takes an ongoing continuous love relationship with Jesus to keep us from participating in this "evil, full of deadly poison." The book of James says it pretty well, "But no man can tame the tongue."
Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. James 3:5-8
Murder begins in the heart with one's thoughts and meditations and proceeds out of the heart to do it's evil deeds. God has told us we are not to commit murder. All life belongs to God. In the Ten Commandments, and throughout the Old Testament, Father God has instructed us to not participate in the shedding of innocent blood. Jesus said it a little more in depth as He taught the multitudes in the Gospels. He warns that if we carry anger and hatred in our heart against our brother we are in danger of God's judgement. His warnings are always as much about our own character building as they are for the protection of others.
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things that defile a man...Matt 15:19,20a
God does not want us to destroy or damage anyone with our words or actions. My father would say, "If it could hurt someone, it is best left unsaid." Later in life, I discovered this wisdom came from God's Word. The destruction of a human heart is a major occurrence with God. When we seek to destroy someone's reputation because of our need to be vindicated for a perceived wrong doing, we may be in danger of the destruction of our own heart as well. Being steadfast in God's ways takes far more courage and can bring healing to all involved.
Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother's were righteous. 1John 3:12
It is never good to be jealous of the good someone else has done. God may have placed them in our lives for us to learn from. When we see others succeed, especially in their walk with God, it should give us hope of better things to come as we seek to know and do His will! Being jealous will only serve to negate the progress we could have made in our spiritual journey. As we experience God through the good of others, IN FAITH...He brings spiritual growth as well as hope for the future within ourselves.
"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me."
Blessings come to those who are a blessing to others. A damaged spirit can be healed with kindness and God's great love! Helping a hurting heart can bring a 'broken spirit' back to life. God knows our reasons for doing what we do and He will put us to the test. He searches for hearts that are unselfish and turn toward Him and His teachings. God wants us to search for the truth in His Word.
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and morrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
Tracking truth in the Bible will help us grown in His love and draw closer to Him. When we know what God says is right, we need to share it with others. Speaking God's Word will never return void or empty. When we study, learn, speak and live the Word of God, we will be His disciples and others can know the reason for the hope that is within us.
I want to receiving the blessings You have prepared for me. You know the difficulty I have in keeping your commands when relying on myself. Help me to rely fully on You, Lord, to do all that You command of me, that I may be a witness and a blessing to others!
