The Buddy System

Teachers may add their own creative skills and special touches. You can use snacks, play games, select music and/or use a study of the people in the Bible chosen by God to teach this lesson. At Calvary Kidz Church, we will be having our church drama team present a skit with some of the lessons. Each week is different. Be creative and capture their attention. Remember they will be getting to know the Critters, their personalities, and be able to relate to them as time goes on.

Greet new members and introduce them to the class and the Critters.

Open the class with a prayer.

Read the Bible Verse for the day!

The Bible Says:
"So when we can do good to everyone, let us do it. Let us make a special point of doing good to those who belong to the family of believers." Galatians 6:1

Objective:
Speak with the children about how they treat others. Tell them God tells us how He wants us to act towards others. Emphasize He wants us to encourage other Christians.

What does God mean when He says, "those who belong to the family of believers?" Bring out that God is talking about those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord!

(Speak with the children)
Have you noticed that friends treat you differently? There are those that make you happy! There are others that make you feel bad. God's Word calls them encouragers and discouragers. Which describes the kind of friend you want to be? Do you sometimes make a friend feel bad about who they are, or how they look?

(Teach the children)
God has told us to be encouragers. When we see someone who is discouraged we should show them kindness. Showing God's love can bring hope to others.

(Let the Critters help teach the lesson)

Emmi Squirrel lost her grip and fell from the tree. She is very sad. She thinks she has failed to be the best squirrel she can be. Squirrels are suppose to be very good climbers. Cami Cub is a caring friend. She will comfort Emmi Squirrel. She will encourage her to try to climb the tree again. Emmi will do better the next time. Because she has been shown God's Great Love, she will be stronger and more careful. Cami has been a good encourager.

God wants us to do good to all people. Repeat today's verse. He wants us to pray special prayers to encourage our Christian family. Let us pray for the members of our Kidz Church class and the teachers too!

Worship God with music.

Activity (see below)
Give an example or invite the children to share about times when they were encouraged. Discouraged. How did that make them feel? How can they be encouragers?

Pass out the coloring pages.

Explain the daily devotions! Encourage the Kids to show these to their parents and get help as they continue to learn how to encourage others through the week.

Activity to aid in this teaching "encourage" and "discourage."

I printed 4 clip art images, representing "feel good" situations or "feel bad" situations, on 8 1/2" by 11" card stock, divide into 4 flash cards. Small classes (2 per child) large classes (1 per child). I made two boxes...one entitled "Encourage - feel good" the other "Discourage - feel bad." Have each child place their card(s) in the appropriate box. Go through the boxes and let the kids discuss (as a class not announcing who placed the card in that box) how and why that was or was not the correct box for the picture. Be creative in the choice of clip art you use. I chose interesting and funny cards. Our discussions were for them to learn these big word in the Bible and think about how they can be the "encouragers" God has asked them to be. They were challenged to look for ways they can be encouragers this week. I was pleased how this kept their attention.
