Christians often fail to realize it is our walk with God that really speaks the loudest between our walk and our talk. We have a heart to see others come to know God. Do we only want others to accept a personal relationship with Jesus, or should we have concern about their spiritual growth and the quality of their personal walk with God? Let's go to scripture for our answer.
Talk the Talk / Walk the Walk
Jesus replied, "Go! stand in the temple courtyard, "the angel said."Tell the people all about this new life." Acts 5:20
The last two verses of the book of Matthew (28:19-20) known as "the Great Commission," is given to every new born believer in Christ Jesus. We are to share the gospel of our Lord and Savior. I believe we all must find our own ways of getting this "good news," out to others. We just need to step out "in faith" and do it!
Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:13-14
Should we do more? Yes, according to the Word of God, we need to do much more than share the Gospel of Christ. He tells us to study the Word and become equipped to handle it with correctness in thought and in deed!
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
When I study the Word, I'm either seeking for an answer or hungry for a revelation from God. Knowing it comes from God, intensifies my awareness, and IN FAITH, HE.... brings the Word "alive". I get excited to share what I have learned as I know it has the power to change lives for the better. There are times I sense a need to speak with my Pastor or a Bible study teacher from my church to make sure what I have just realized from the Word is correct. I want to be very sure what I am sharing is true to the Christian faith. However, I have learned that where the Bible makes since, don't mess with it! God says it, I believe it and that settles it for me!
Therfore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17
When we have that personal relationship with Jesus we are new creations in Him. The Holy Spirit dwells within us and can lead us in truth. God gave Himself to us and we do have what it takes to live lives that honor and glorify Him! It is so very important we "walk the walk," with God's instruction. When we fail, it is important to dust off and get back on track for the sake of God's Kingdom. We know we are attaining spiritual growth when our first concern is that we have hurt God and His kingdom purpose. We may have become a stumbling block to a brother or sister in Christ or brought injury to a possible new born believer! Our heart becomes heavy; Repenting and receiving a fresh cleansing becomes top priority! That new creation gets a new beginning! That is why we need to continue the learning of God's Word and the sharing of what He has done for us. We are free! God would have us share this freedom with others! We can if we " talk the talk" and by all means, "walk the walk," according to God's direction!
"He saved us. It wasn't because of the good things we had done. It was because of his mercy. He saved us by washing away our sins. We were born again. The Holy Spirit gave us new life." Titus 3:5
A prayer to share:
Thank You Lord Jesus, for each new day bringing with it more and more opportunities to point others to you! I pray my attention will be directed more towards the concern for others and less for myself. This daily battle belongs to you. Help me rely on your promptings! Amen
